![]() This should be a typical night in the Sacred Lands, but it feels far from it. Amber traces Aloy’s pale skin in the same way. Talanah stays bathed in firelight, only revealing her shadows in the steady rise and fall of her chest. The dark reaches out, but it can’t quite touch them. Shadows dance above her in the projections of crisscrossed metal beams, broken but revealing a pattern. But she doesn’t-she finds enough solace in the dark, the silhouettes of pines and the soft cricket-drone. She could pick it up, dust it off, open up that world if she needs to. It glints in the firelight, close enough to her side for comfort. She could see better with that ancient device, but she never finds the urge to use it. Her bow lies in the grass, alongside her Focus, just within arm’s length. Aloy scans the nightscape for a much-needed distraction. Dark strands rest by Aloy’s side but never come close enough to reach her. Her hair spills freely across the grass, freed of its feathered crown. Aloy can’t see her Hawk’s face-Talanah keeps her back to her, leaning towards the fire on instinct alone. Aloy stays close, if not to keep an eye on her, but to stoke the flames to keep them both warm. Talanah’s form curls up close to open flame, swaddled in her bedroll. But Aloy has to stay vigilant if not for her, then for the companion that sleeps beside her. She hasn’t seen the glow of blue machine light just yet, and perhaps it will never come. The forest beyond that is drenched in shadow, only recognizable through the rustling of leaves. A collapsed skyscraper protects her from the howling wind above it sits that the edge of the ruins. She can’t identify it, but it intermingles with the chill in the air.
